Point Pearce Early Childhood
The Point Pearce Early Childhood Project was initiated by senior women from the Point Pearce Aboriginal community who wanted to see more happening for the little ones. Since small beginnings in 2004, the project has developed into a major program funded by the Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS). It aims to provide consistent, ongoing early childhood services and activities at Point Pearce, that are integrated into the school and community life.
Our community development worker, playgroup coordinators and early childhood specialists support families to respond to the developmental needs of their young children. They also deliver a nationally recognised Certificate III in Children's Services as part of a parents/carers learning program. The work is closely connected into school and pre-school acivities and involves mentoring local community members into key professional roles, in what we hope will become an ongoing service.
