Working with Multicultural communities
PEACE Multicultural Services
PEACE is one aspect of the Institute's commitment to cultural diversity. It includes a specialist team of culturally diverse workers engaging with multiple communities to increase access to appropriate support and resources. Together these workers provide bi-lingual and bi-cultural information, education, advocacy, referral and support for individuals, families and communities. They also connect people to other available services.
PEACE is particularly funded to increase awareness about hepatitis C or HIV (link) and related issues and also to assist CALD communities to recognise problem gambling (link) and understand its effect on families.
- PEACE believes that human diversity contributes to a rich and vibrant society
- PEACE recognises the importance of culture in the lives of individuals and values cultural diversity
- PEACE believes in each person’s expression of their spirituality and the significance of all religions
- PEACE respects the diversity of relationships between individuals, families and communities
- PEACE aim for these values to be embedded in all programs of the Institute and influence our practice at all levels.
We seek to build partnerships directly with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities to ensure we are guided by the real experiences of individuals as well as lead agencies and culturally specific clubs or associations. Our model of practice enables people at multiple levels to influence the program - from direct clients, through to volunteers, paid workers, elected representatives and community Elders.
