Youth Work

Through our consultations with young people who use youth services and with youth service workers and managers, the Institute maintains close links with the youth sector.

We regularly train young people to become peer educators and to develop formal training skills so that they can be active and fully recognised trainers within our youth work programs.

We believe that raising workers’ awareness of the issues for young people is becoming increasingly important, so this focus is a key part of our training for community services. The Institute’s Children and Domestic Violence project provided a valuable opportunity to address the ways children and young people are marginalised from having a say in how they receive services.

We also provide training in Youth Work. This includes the Certificate IV in Youth Work, Certificate IV in Youth Work (Juvenile Justice) and the Diploma of Youth Work. In addition, the Institute provides short courses in Responding to Crisis and Facilitating Cooperative Behaviour. These programs are tailored to specific work contexts within the community services and include young people in the training delivery. See the Youth Work Prospectus.
