The CHCSS00103 Mental Health Peer Work Skill Set is designed for lived experience peer workers entering the mental health workforce. Participants receive training and support to develop personal awareness as well as professional and community skills and knowledge, associated with the unique role of the mental health peer worker.
The Skill Set will consist of three subjects, including:
- Apply peer work practices in the mental health sector
- Work legally and ethically
- Apply lived experience to mental health peer work
The training provides participants with skills and knowledge to:
- Understand the role of lived experience within peer work in an organisational setting
- Work legally and ethically as a peer worker in an organisational setting
80 hours of practicum / work placement is required for the completion of this Skill Set.

Entry Requirements
Learners in this program must have a lived experience of mental health either as direct personal experience or as a carer of someone with mental health lived experience.

Location
Face-to-face classroom sessions are delivered in Adelaide (Hindmarsh).
Work Placement Requirements
To achieve this qualification, students must have completed at least 80 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.
- All placements must be approved by the Institute prior to commencement to ensure the required work based learning and assessment can be completed.
- Wherever possible, a work placement within a program of Relationships Australia SA will be organised, but this is not guaranteed, and students need to seek placements at other organisations.
- Students on placement within RASA must meet the mandatory requirements for working with children checks, National police clearance, and COVID-19 vaccinations.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Tuition Fee, Payment Options, Loans
Full Fee: $900.
Gap Fee (SA Govt. Subsidy): $120 (total gap fee reduces to $120, if you are eligible for SA Government subsidy).
Gap Fee (Concession): $65 (total gap fee reduces to $65, if you are eligible for SA Government subsidies with valid Health Care, Pensioner or Veteran Affairs concession cards only).
