Credit and RPL

Credit Transfer

Credit transfers can help you avoid repeating unnecessary training or assessment. So, if you’ve completed a unit of your course through VET or other higher education, you may be eligible for a credit transfer. To obtain a credit transfer, you must submit formal proof that you’ve completed the unit of competency. This could be in the form of a qualification certificate or transcript, statement of attainment, or your USI transcript.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Sometimes, life experience is the best experience. Recognition of Prior Learning, or RPL, is the assessment of skills, knowledge and experience an individual has gained outside of formal education, such as informal learning, work experience or life experience. RPL enables us to understand your existing competencies, and possibly grant you credit for part or all of a unit of competency.

Applying for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

  1. Considering RPL
If you have two or more years of experience in a role and/or have completed qualification or certification in the relevant field, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). You may apply for RPL for partial units of competency within a qualification, or for a full qualification. When applying for RPL, an initial eligibility assessment fee is required to start the process and is to be paid at the time of enrolment.

  2. RPL Application
During your pre-enrolment interview, an AISR assessor will talk through the RPL process with you and identify potential opportunities for RPL. Following your interview, you’ll complete an RPL application form with your evidence and submit. Our RPL Assessor will then contact you to conduct a Pre-Assessment Check.

  3. Eligibility & Evidence
Our Assessor will evaluate your evidence to determine if you are eligible for the RPL process. If additional evidence is needed, the Assessor will request it and provide feedback on your application.

  4. RPL Ineligible
If the Assessor finds you ineligible for RPL, you may choose to progress to a standard enrolment in the unit(s) or qualification. The RPL eligibility assessment fee will be deducted from your course fee.

  5. RPL Eligible
If deemed eligible for RPL, you will be supported by an Assessor throughout the RPL assessment pathway. RPL fees apply, you can find these on the relevant qualification page.
